Will I Need Treatment During Pregnancy?

Not every pregnant woman with Hepatitis B needs medication.

    If your HBV viral load is HIGH, your doctor may prescribe Tenofovir during the last trimester.
  • 🟢
    If your viral load is LOW, antiviral treatment is usually not required.
Tenofovir is considered safe during pregnancy and significantly reduces the risk of mother-to-child transmission.

Baby's Protection

How Is My Baby Protected?

The most important protection begins immediately after birth. Your baby should receive:
💉 Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin (HBIG)
💉 First dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine
🕐 WITHIN 12 HOURS OF BIRTH
This is followed by additional vaccine doses at 6, 10, and 14 weeks, with a blood test at 9–12 months to confirm protection.

The mode of delivery is decided by your obstetrician based on your pregnancy, not your Hepatitis B status.

Can I Breastfeed?

✔ Yes. Breastfeeding is safe if your baby receives HBIG and the Hepatitis B vaccine within 12 hours of birth.

    If your nipples become cracked or bleed, temporarily stop breastfeeding from the affected breast until it heals.

    You can express and discard the milk during this period to maintain your milk supply.
